20.09.08. will get fooled again

the new max tundra video is now online HERE. thanks to everyone that came out to help me. extra special thanks to emma macfarlane, james hatt and martin testar, who all made something out of nothing. we didn't have much time or money to do it, but it was fun to shoot and goof around with ben.

for now it's exclusively on myspace, but i'll eventually post a better quality link or put a better quality video here as myspace videos are terrible... myspace is terrible in general. but i understand that it's where you go to check out music.. i hear the video's already doing the rounds on internet land - HERE is a nice write up on shots ring out who spotted the spelling mistake on pitchfork..and thanks to PITCHFORK for subsequently correcting it..

the max tundra video is finished and will go live fairly soon i imagine. in the meantime, the new issue of japanese magazine plus 81 has a feature of my work for kieran (four tet).

27.08.08. some awards and a new music video

i recently won some awards which i've added to the info section. i'm happy to say that i'm currently finishing off a new music video for my friend max tundra. it's for the first single 'will get fooled again', from his incredible, exuberant forthcoming new album 'parallax error beheads you', which will be released on domino records in october.

it's been a good while since i directed a music video. i think at some point i unofficially decided that i wouldn't make any more videos unless it was for a friend or for music that i'm crazy about..i'm much happier making the odd video every so often than churning them out. i will post more info when the video is complete.

17.05.08. woofy activities

i've been terrible at keeping this site up to date. the past six months have gone something like this- 1. tried to make some sort of living by doing various types of jobs. some have been enjoyable, others less so. 2. then use what i'm paid from these jobs to work on short films, as well as write/ draw/ gather new material. 3. run out of money. 4. panic. 5. back to 1.

some news- i recently poured a lot of energy into a short film called "first place". i have also been working on two comic book/ series type things but i have no idea when they will be finished.

i will also eventually get around to updating this site properly.

23.11 2007 from nose to mouth on specialten

'from nose to mouth' - the short film that consumed much of my time last year will be available to view on the new issue of specialten dvd. a short trailer of the film is running on the specialten website.

22.10 2007 meaningless 03, 04, 05.

you can now watch 'meaningless 03, 04,05' - the collaboration between myself and matthew herbert over at the ica website. it was never meant to be viewed in this way- i'd imagined the video to be more like visuals to accompany a live performance, so i feel a little funny about it being online like this, but see what you think. link HERE.

11.05 2007 guangzhou, china

the british council have invited me out to guangzhou in china to give talks and attend the continuing antenna screenings. it was originally going to be a longer tour, but it's unfortunately been cut down to just one city. i'm still very much looking forward to it. dates and info can be found here.

also, i've been told the coldcut video will be screening at this year's sonar festival.

21.03 2007 specialten

a long long while ago, the very nice people at specialten magazine/dvd asked me to come up with something for a limited edition print to go with their new issue. i sent them a photograph i was very fond of - a picture i took of my friend yuko during the time that she was helping me out with the coldcut video. i think they were expecting me to send them an illustration, so they ended up not using it. i'm glad to say that it's now been printed as a limited edition print in their latest issue. i hope the picture brightens up your day as it does mine. i was trying to find it to put it up here but it's somewhere inside my old computer which died a while ago..

14.03 2007 video for calvin harris

i've recently come back from a tour of giving talks and screenings in new zealand and australia for the british council. thank you to all the people, the fantastic venues and organisations for making my stay so pleasurable... a new video for calvin harris is apparently circulating at the moment. i have no idea what i think of it. it's pretty silly. it was fun to do though, although it would have been nice to have had a little more time to shoot it... i like to think of it as my attempt at making a proper pop video, whatever that means.. i will eventually get round to putting the video on this site, but in the meantime, you can take a peek here.

26.01 2007 some news

i'm currently in production for a new music video- my first for about a year.. last year was mostly spent working on little bits and pieces for televison as well as putting a lot of work into from nose to mouth. the new video will hopefully be something along the lines of what i like to think of as comedy..

in other news, the british council have kindly invited me out to australia and new zealand to give some talks and attend events alongside the touring antenna screenings from mid february to early march- more on this soon..

09.11 2006 creative futures, coldcut dvd

there have been some minor problems with the hosting of this site- some people seem to be coming here via the oncotton site. i'm currently trying to sort this out. I've just been told that i've 'won' the animation category for this year's creative futures, run by creative review magazine, who will publish the results in their december issue.... The coldcut video 'whistle and a prayer' has finally been officially released on a new dvd. (The video was actually made almost two years ago...) other than that, my work on the film "From Nose to Mouth" is complete, as well as a handful of BBC jam spots that are apparently airing at the moment..also, you can take a peek at the poster i designed for antenna uk here
